Originally, The Great Friends Meeting House was built in 1699 and served as a hub for Quakers. Later, it transformed into "The Rec," a community center for sports, arts, and education. The Meeting House was purchased, restored, and gifted to the Newport Historical Society, and the Martin Luther King Center now serves as the new location for community programs.
